The alleged spy who was placed on an Interpol “red notice” was finally captured in the city of Larnaca, Sothern Cyprus in the city’s International Airport.

CNN also reported that Cypriot police told the News Agency that Robert Chrisdtopher Metsos was arrested travelling with a Canadian passport and about to board a plane to travel to Budapest, Hungary.

Cypriot authorities have also said that the 55-year-old has been released on bail and is pending further enquiries, but is not allowed to leave the European country.

It is presumed that the alleged spy will be extradited to the US to face charges against him by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

NationalTurk, on Tuesday reported that 10 alleged spy’s were arrested and charged by the FBI on Monday after the alleged spies were reported to have stayed in the United states, some since the earlt 90’s to gather information from the United States.

Many of the arrested people had come to the United States with fake foreign passports but the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that the arrested suspects were all Russian citizens.

Dean Boyd, a spokesman for the Justice department, said on Wednesday that “The investigation was properly coordinated with the appropriate officials outside the Justice Department, as our national security matters routinely are. We have no further comment.”

The White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, said on Tuesday that President Barack Obama has been briefed several times about the situation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had been angered by the arrests on Sunday and had said on its website that the information were “unfounded and have unseemly goals. We do not understand the reasons why the U.S. Department of Justice has made a public statement in the spirit of the Cold War,

“Such incidents have occurred in the past, when our relations were on the rise. In any case it is regrettable that all these things are happening on the background of the ‘reset’ in Russian-U.S. relations announced by the U.S. administration.”

The US is currently acting with care in the case as relations between the former Cold War enemies have been on a high in recent years.
