Unrwest after Kashmir soldiers killed

Indian army spokesman said army men deployed along Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of heavily-armed militants trying to infiltrate into this side of LoC from Pakistani controlled Kashmir (PcK) in Machil sector, 140 kms North from Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir.

“The militants were challenged by the soldiers and asked to surrender and lay down weapons. The militants, however, turned down the offer and fired from automatic weapons. The fire was returned by the soldiers, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight, which was going on, two soldiers have been killed,” he said.

The additional soldiers have been rushed to the area to prevent militants from escaping from the area. “The number of militants engaged in the gunfight is not known, but we have laid siege around the adjoining areas to prevent them from escaping from the area,” an army officer said.

India has been accusing Pakistan of arming militants and facilitating their infiltration into Indian Kashmir to foment trouble. However, Pakistan has been regularly denying the charges.
