The World Cup 2022 to take place in winter  as the bosses of the two major football associations agree. But while FIFA President Joseph Blatter wants to unsubscribe the tournament in Advent to UEFA president Michel Platini speaks out for January. Otherwise, “there could be problems.”

When is the World Cup held in Qatar in 2022 ?  The top officials Joseph Blatter and Michel Platini have since different ideas. UEFA boss Platini has called for an alignment of the controversial tournament in January.

“If it takes place in December or November, there could be a problem if they take place in January, there will be no problem,” the Frenchman told the broadcaster Sky Sports. What are the problems this is concrete, but was not clear.

FIFA president Blatter, however, had recently called for a World Cup in November and December 2022, in order to avoid a collision with the Winter Olympics in 2022, but the exact date is not yet fixed. For this purpose, it has apparently already been talks with outgoing IOC President Jacques Rogge.

“For us, there is confidence that the FIFA will vote with the IOC to host data of the two major events. We are convinced that it means no harm for the Winter Games in 2022,” had the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in mid-July.

The Fifa executive will, at its meeting on 3 and 4 October in Zurich consult with the difficult subject. That these are also Blatter and Platini. Especially against top English clubs are basically a World Cup in winter due to scheduling problems for the Premier League. In the Bundesliga, the leaves idea was welcomed, however. According to Platini could now come to a move by the European leagues, where the Fifa will be presented their own concept.

“Fifa will decide and organize the World Cup, but perhaps make the European leagues a proposal,” said Platini, who is expected that he may run in 2015 for the post of FIFA President Office. The Frenchman had publicly confirmed for Qatar as the only official voice his award at the World Cup in December 2010, much earlier than Blatter calls for a winter World Cup because of the high temperatures in the Gulf.

  1. Qatari summers are extremely hot, night and day. There is the humidity factor that makes 50 C feel like 60C. At night the temperatures go down to 30 – 35 C but the humidity makes it unbearable to walk or stand outdoors for periods longer than 10 minutes. If you do so, you will be covered with sweat.
Besides the humidity, we get sand storms quite often in this period of the year. Many times the skies in Qatar in June –July are yellowish-grey and the air is not breathable.
Maids and labor in Qatar (and all GCC Countries) make 150 to 200 US$/month. There are no laws to protect these workers from systematic abuses, not even a law to establish a minimum salary! Often these workers have to pay 1000+ US$ to obtain a working visa, just to find out that they have to work for almost a year to pay back that fee. Their passports are removed and their movements in the country are conditioned. Either they are just allowed to leave the house with their employers (no day off) or in case of the labors, on their day off, they are not allowed to go to shopping malls, the souk and Corniche (road by the sea). Qatar has a labor law that facilitates slavery and has climate conditions in the summer that are close to lunar atmosphere!
Not to mention that the local culture is not compatible with the World Cup festivity culture! Also not to mention that Qatar only has one city with very poor infrastructures and congested traffic! When on earth the world cup was organized in one city only?
The whole world knows it was a mistake to award this event to Qatar. If general public knew Qatar like I know (I live here) they would have been shocked with disbelieve of the obscene and irresponsible FIFA’s decision!

  3. Let me substantiate my allegation.

Firstly, if some journalists asked me (he) why I voted for Qatar, I would simply and politically say: “I was very pleased and convinced by the Qatar bid. I am sure they can fulfil what they have said, including the provision of air-conditioning systems to overcome the heat problem.” However, he instead confessed that he made 2 promises before the bidding finals. One of these two promises made to the Qatar bidding team was he would change the time to winter afterwards.

Secondly, he wanted to regulate the professional soccer with “financial fair play”. However, he has forgotten that this is a commercial professional sport in which free market mechanism is paramount.

Thirdly, when people are against the idea of giving Turkey the holding right of 2020 Euro Championship, he simply make this tournament to happen in 13 countries.

Lastly is the refutation of technology. He simply used 2 more goal line referees without remembering the limitation of human’s ability.

  4. This is the ugliest scandal upright in the public. While FIFA and most decent soccer fans are against match-fixing, this UEFA head wittingly chose a very bad location because of some of his non-monetary-direct reasons, promising in advance that he would change from summer to winter should Qatar won. Even non-monetary-direct, this is a cheat obviously. Why is he so shameless?

The next piece of suspicious conspiratorial element is the timing. Why this bidding and awarding had to be so unprecedentedly early? Not 8 years earlier but 12? Was someone (or were some people) wanting to give this not well structured country of 1.8 million population to have enough time to build up infrastructures for accommodating around 3 million people (South America’s figure)?
