Over 250 terrorists killed in 7 days

According to Pakistan army figures, over 250 terrorists have been killed in North Wazirstan after military launched operation against local and foreign militants hiding in the lawless tribal agency on June 15.

Eight soldiers have also been killed and seven injured during the operation so far.

Most of the Pakistan’s political parties barring some religious parties have supported the military operation, which was launched to flush out local and foreign militants hiding there.

Pakistan’s notorious militant outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has staged hundreds of deadly attacks across Pakistan, was based in North Waziristan and was planning attacks from the tribal agency.

‘Terrorists making desperate attempts to escape’

“While the operation codenamed Zarb–e-Azb is progressing as per plan, terrorists inside cordoned area are making desperate attempts to flee from area. Six attempts were foiled by security forces last night. Three locals who did not have any identity proof were apprehended while trying to flee from the cordon. Another 24 suspects, who were trying to flee in the garb of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) have been apprehended at various strangulation check posts in Mirali and Miranshah,” the military spokesman said.

The military has been softening the militant resistance by bombarding their positions and hideouts from jet fighters and helicopter gunships. Afterwards, military is planning a full scale ground operation to take over control of the entire North Waziristan tribal agency.
