327 terrorists killed in 12 days in North Waziristan: Pakistan army

Pakistan military has said 327 terrorists have been killed in the ongoing army operation in country’s North Waziristan tribal agency.

Islamabad, June 27/Nationalturk – Pakistan military, which has launched an all-out operation against local and foreign militants in lawless North Waziristan tribal agency, has said so far 327 terrorists have been killed in the operation so far.

“Since the launch of the operation codenamed Zarb-e-Azb against local and foreign terrorists in North Waziristan on June 15, about 327 terrorists have been killed in Pakistan jet bombings and clashes with security forces,” Pakistan army spokesman said.

He said 45 hideouts of militants have been destroyed so far.

“19 terrorists have surrendered before security forces,” he said without disclosing anyting about their nationality or allegiances.

The spokesman said 10 soldiers were also killed and seven others injured in the operation so far.

‘Biggest, well coordinated operation’

He said the operation is the biggest and most well-coordinated operation ever conducted by Pakistan army against terrorists. “It is the beginning of the end for terrorism in the country,” he said.

“The troops have surrounded North Waziristan. We have surrounded the entire agency and sealed the 180km border with Afghanistan, as well as the boundary with South Waziristan, making it impossible for terrorists to escape,” he said.

The spokesman said operation was being carried out without any discrimination between “good” or “bad Taliban”.

“Terrorists of all kinds, involved in different activities from Fata to Karachi, are based in North Waziristan. They include local and foreign militants, including Uzbeks and Chechens. Now, it is up to them whether they surrender or fight,” he said adding army will eliminate all the terrorists.

The army spokesman said nearly 36,804 families comprising 456,292 individuals had been registered as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and that most of them had moved in with host families in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat areas.

“IDPs are also being screened so that no terrorist can escape under the guise of an IDP,” he said.
