In a tragic road  accident, 40 people were killed when two passenger coaches and two trucks collided on Quetta-Karachi highway in Pakistan on Saturday.

Islamabad, March 22/Nationalturk – At least 40 people were killed when two passenger coaches and two trucks collided on Quetta-Karachi highway in Pakistan on Saturday.

Officials said the accident took place at around 0500 hours when two speedy buses collided with a truck coming from opposite direction near Gadani Mor on Quetta-Karachi RCD Highway in Balochistan province.

“After the collision the vehicles caught fire which caused casualties. The truck was carrying diesel which caused the spontaneous burning of the vehicles,” they said.

Passenger bus collided with a truck

District Police Officer (DPO) Ahmed Nawaz Cheema was quoted as saying by Pakistan newspaper, The Express Tribune that the passenger bus tried to overtake a vehicle and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. “There was a huge explosion after the collision as the bus was carrying oil”.

He said at the same time another passenger bus coming to Karachi from Quetta collided with another truck at the same place.

Officials said 38 people were killed and 15 others critically injured in the accident. “The injured were rushed to hospitals, where two of them later succumbed to injuries”.

They said women and children were among the dead.

Doctors at Jam Qadir Hospital said few bodies brought to their hospital were found charred and unidentified.

Death toll may rise

A senior government official said the death toll may rise as many injured have suffered critical burn injuries.

He said the deceased were heading for Karachi from different parts of Balochistan.

A spokesman of Balochistan government Jan Mohammed Buledi said the government will probe the incident and compensate the victim families.
