A suicide bombing near RA Bazaar in Rawalpindi in Pakistan on Monday morning killed 13 people including six soldiers. 13 people including some soldiers were injured in the bombing.

Islamabad, Jan 20/Nationalturk – A day after 22 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a bombing in Pakistan’s Bannu area, a suicide bombing near RA Bazaar in Rawalpindi on Monday killed 13 people including six soldiers.

Police sources said suicide bomber riding a bicycle was intercepted near RA Bazar, Rawalpindi. “After finding himself trapped, he blew himself up killing 13 people including six soldiers”.

They said among the dead civilians include 19-year-old student, who was on his way to college.

They said 15 persons including some soldiers were injured in the suicide bombing.

The injured were rushed to nearby CMH and Military hospitals, where doctors are attending on them. The doctors have termed condition of some of the injured as “critical”.

Immediately after the blast, security force men cordoned off the area and conducted combing operation. “Two suspected persons were arrested from the blast site,” sources said.

‘Bomber was under the guise of garbage collector’

Pakistan’s State news agency APP quoted Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Muhammad Maqbool as saying the attacker (16-18), who was under the guise of garbage-collector exploded himself while riding a bicycle when security men stopped him at a check post near the Bazaar’s main crossing Mehmoodul Hassan road.

Media reports said the blast took place in front of the National Logistics Cell building near the General Headquarters of the Pakistan military and the RA police station.

They said the market, a short walk from the army headquarters in Rawalpindi is in one of the most secure areas of the city.

TTP claims bombing

Pakistan’s dreaded terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the bombing.

“We will continue attacks on the government and its armed forces as the government has neither announced ceasefire nor peace talks with us,” TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid was quoted as saying by Pakistan media.

Earlier, yesterday at least 22 soldiers were killed and 30 others injured in a powerful explosion in Bannu city in a private vehicle that was part of the military convoy.  The deadly attack was owned by TTP.

The attack drew wide condemnations but Pakistani politicians including cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan and leaders of religious groups continued to press government to hold talks with TTP despite killings of security force men and civilians.
