After Paris terrorist attacks, Eiffel Tower lights up for France

Eiffel Tower Paris terrorThe Eiffel Tower, France’ s iconic landmark, to be lit up with the colors of French flag for three days to honor the 129 victims of Friday’s deadly wave of terror attacks.

After a two-day shutdown as part of the national tribute, the Eiffel Tower will be lit from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. local time on Monday, then from nightfall to 1 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a spokeswoman for the city.

The decision was taken by the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, after seeing several monuments across the globe paying tribute to France.

Paris’s motto, “Fluctuat Nec Mergitur”, Latin for “Tossed but not sunk” will also be displayed.

French President Francois Hollande said the attacks — the deadliest on European soil since the 2004 Madrid train bombings killed 191 — were carried out by Daesh. The Syria-based group later claimed responsibility.

“In tragic moments that pass over France, culture is more than ever the symbolic place of discovery for oneself and others,” Fleur Pellerin, France’s culture minister, said in a statement Sunday night (Anadolu Agency).
