Dutchman Robin Van Persie close Manchester United jersey to wear this year, Alex Ferguson really want to .
Sir Alex Ferguson has indicated that he wants to make two more signings this summer in the hopes that he can increase Manchester United’s quality in the first team, so as to better challenge derby rivals Manchester City in next season’s mouth-watering Premier League race.
“It’s possible we could bring in one or maybe two more,” Ferguson in a recent interview, “We’ve always done well in terms of getting players at the end of the season. We always feel that it’s the right time. We don’t have to wait the whole summer. When there’s a European Championship or World Cup on, there’s always a delay.”
Everton defender Leighton Baines and Brazilian wunderkind Lucas Moura are at the top of Ferguson’s list of transfer targets but it’s no secret that he is also monitoring the contract situation regarding Robin Van Persie closely.
Manchester United are still very much interested in Arsenal’s want-away forward Robin van Persie. Facing competition from mega-rich Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, the chances of United pulling off a major coup by signing the Dutchman look extremely remote.
Ferguson has already recently added the midfielder pair of Japanese national Shinji Kagawa and Crewe-born playmaker Nick Powell to Manchester United’s roster for next season but is looking to expand the squad again before the end of the summer.
Manchester United Transfer News: Danny Welbeck Begins Contract Negotiations
Manchester United are restarting contract discussions with England forward Danny Welbeck after the two parties failed to agree a deal earlier in the summer.
The 21-year-old English striker is highly rated at Old Trafford and is seen as the future of the club. United’s number 19 is entering his final 12 months of his £16,000-a-week deal and wants around £60,000-a-week in his next contract.
Welbeck scored 12 goals in 38 appearances last season for the Red Devils and has now overtaken Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez as a favorite to start alongside Wayne Rooney. As well being an important player for Manchester United, he also found himself in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad and managed to start all four games at the finals, scoring once.
Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he does not want to match ridiculous contracts deals, which could suggest that Welbeck’s demands may not be met. Discussion will no doubt continue over the next few months, even if Fergie doesn’t want to throw away money having a young talent such as Welbeck is key to the club’s success.
Manchester UnitedTransfer News: James Rodriguez Snubs Red Devils Interest
Manchester United summer transfer target James Rodriguez has revealed he has no intention of leaving Porto despite interest from several European clubs.
Rodriguez has been linked with Manchester United as a potential replacement for contract rebel Nani, and despite serious interest in the 21-year-old he has denied he will leave Porto.
The Columbian winger was believed to be subject to a £30 million bid from Manchester United although Rodriguez has denied he will move:
“I want to stay here, Porto are a big club and they are my present. My only thought is playing for Porto and I am also thinking about what is best for the club.”
Porto may well be Rodriguez’s present but if speculation continues his future may lie in the Premier League. Rodriguez had a great season in the last campaign scoring 13 goals in all competitions for Porto, which led the club to retain the Portuguese title.
Sir Alex Ferguson still rates the player very highly which suggests that Ferguson will continue to scout the player just in case he can be convinced to leave the club and make his way to Old Trafford.
