The Anonymous hackers now are no more anonymous they have names, at least in Italy after police exposed them in many dawn searches im many cities across Italy.

Dawn searches: Leader of Anonymous Hackers “Frey” based in Canton Ticino

The communications police computer crime and critical infrastructure protection unit (CNAIPIC) is understood to have identified the leader of the group, who is reported to be a 26-year-old Italian resident in Canton Ticino called Frey, which was also the nickname used during hacker attacks. Officers entered his home at dawn to search the computers used to organise the attacks. Two other people were also charged while the total number of hackers involved in police investigations connected with the Secure Italy operation is reported to be thirty-six. A number of minors are active in the group.

From January up till a few hours ago, demonstration attacks by the Italian branch of Anonymous had hit corporate websites, including ENI, Finmeccanica, the Italian post office and the Unicredit bank, as well as the sites of the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the Prime Minister’s Office and the communications watchdog AGCOM. Target sites were selected because they were in the news or involved in internet-related decisions. Votes on which sites to attack are thought to have been open to the international Anonymous network.

INTERIOR MINISTRY STRATEGY led to arrest of anonymous hackers

In the early months of investigation, the interior ministry adopted a softly, softly approach to avoid raising the Anonymous Hackers group’s visibility but recent attacks are believed to have prompted a change of tack. Sources close to the investigation said that the aim was not to gag internet. Crimes of opinion are not prosecutable but the damage caused by the attacks is said to be considerable, even though the companies involved are treating the information as confidential. Apparently, the attack on the ENI website was one of the most successful. The charges are not likely to lead to any arrests but there could be big-ticket law suits in the pipeline from the injured parties. Informed sources say that from today, the ministry of the interior will be on red alert. Demonstrative attacks cannot be ruled out from other Anonymous Hackers Groups in reaction to the interior ministry’s move against the Italian hackers.
