Islamabad, Oct 11/ Nationalturk – An Arab militant arrested by Pakistani security forces from a University campus in Punjab province last month has told the interrogators that he was the mastermind of suicide attack on Danish embassy in Pakistan capital in 2008.

Pakistani security forces had arrested an Arab militant from Punjab University during a raid last month.

“The Arab militant during interrogation told security  officials during interrogation that he was involved in the attack on the Denmark Embassy in Islamabad in 2008 in which five people were killed and several others injured,” Pakistan newspaper, The News, quoted police sources as saying.

The suicide attack on Denmark embassy had also damaged the nearby residence of the Indian High Commissioner.

‘17 suspects have been detained’

“On the basis of information provided by the Arab militant, 17 suspects have been arrested and the network of the militant group busted,” sources said adding interrogation of Arab militant is going on.

The arrested suspects, according to sources, had plans to target buildings of law enforcement agencies in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Al Qaeda had claimed responsibility for the attack on the Danish Embassy in Islamabad. “The attack was carried out in response to the publication of blasphemous cartoons by a Danish newspaper and the presence of Danish troops in Afghanistan,” the militant outfit had claimed while owning responsibility of the suicide bombing.
