‘Army operation in North Waziristan to end after elimination of terrorism’

Pakistan has said army operation launched in country’s North Waziristan tribal agency will end only after elimination or terrorism and terrorists.

Islamabad, July 7/Nationalturk – Pakistan has said the military operation launched in country’s North Waziristan tribal agency will end only after elimination or terrorism and terrorists.

“There is no timeframe for completion of ongoing military operation against local and foreign terrorists in North Waziristan Agency tribal agency. The operation will continue till elimination of terrorism, terrorism and insurgency from the tribal areas,” Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Mohammad Asif told reporters.

Pakistan military launched an all-out operation against local and foreign militants in North Waziristan tribal agency on June 15. Pakistan military has mainly used fighter jets to pound terrorist positions and hide-outs.

In the over 20 day operation, about 400 terrorists and 20 soldiers have been killed.

“The military operation codenamed Zarb-i-Azb was continuing successfully with the prayers of the nation. The government wanted an early completion of the operation,” Asif said.

He said the nation stood united against terrorism.

The defence minister said announcement of any timeframe for the operation was not possible at the moment.

“The armed forces were fully capable of uprooting terrorism and ensuring a durable peace and rule of law in the country,” he added.

Asif said they will search the corners of the country to eliminate terrorists from the country.

US, UAE extend aid for displaced people

United States has extended an assistance of $31 million and United Arab Emirates (UAE) has released $20.5 million for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of North Wazirstan on humanitarian grounds.

About 0.7 million IDPs have been registered since the beginning of the Zarb-e-Azb operation against terrorists.

After the launch of military operation against terrorists in North Waziristan on June 15, terrorist attacks in Pakistan have dropped considerably and there has been no major terrorist attack in last 20 days.
