Arsenal beat Man City 2-0 in Premier League

English Premier League champions Manchester City received a shocking 2-0 loss against Arsenal in a Matchday 22 game played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

Visitors Arsenal took the lead when their Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla converted the penalty kick successfully in 24’, 1-0.

In 67’, Arsenal’s French target man Olivier Giroud beat Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart by scoring with a header in the box and made it two for the ‘Gunners,’ with the assist coming from Cazorla.

In remaining time home team Manchester City looked for overlap to score but they could not succeed.

Despite many injured players such as French right-back Mathieu Debuchy, team captain Mikel Arteta, English central midfielder Jack Wilshere, French midfielder Abou Diaby and English striker Danny Welbeck, North London side Arsenal were victorious at Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile it seemed that Manchester City lacked several regulars since French midfielder Samir Nasri was out of action due to calf injury and two Ivorian internationals of the team, Yaya Toure and new signing Wilfried Bony did not play as both were on international duty at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The defeat increased the point margin at the top as leaders Chelsea — smashing Swansea City 5-0 in Wales on Saturday — are five points ahead of their closest opponents Manchester City.

On Monday Everton meet West Bromwich Albion at home at the last game of Matchday 22. The match at Goodison Park will kick off at 2000 GMT.

Matchday 22 results are as follows:

Queens Park Rangers 0-2 Manchester United

Swansea City 0-5 Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Sunderland

Leicester City 0-1 Stoke City

Aston Villa 0-2 Liverpool

Burnley 2-3 Crystal Palace

Newcastle United 1-2 Southampton

West Ham United 3-0 Hull City

Manchester City 0-2 Arsenal
