New Delhi, Feb 21/Nationalturk –  At least 11 people were killed and over 50 injured when at least two powerful explosions rocked busy commercial hub of Hyderabad in Indian state of Andhra Pradesh Thursday evening.

Official sources said blasts took place during the peak hour outside a roadside eatery near Konark cinema theatre in Hyderabad. The blasts led to stampede-like situation with people run helter skelter.

Blasts occurred within 5 minutes

They said the first blast occurred at 7.01 pm and the second five minutes later near the Konark cinema theatre in the  congested lanes of Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad.

They said they feared that 15 people were killed in the blasts. “The exact number of casualties is not known yet. Over 50 people were injured in the explosions and shifted to various hospitals,” they said.

Meanwhile, Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said two of the bombs were planted on bicycles near a pair of popular local cinemas.

He said one bomb killed eight people and the other killed three more. “Many people have been critically injured and it is possible that the death toll may rise,” he said.

The officials said police and bomb disposal squads swung into action and began searches. “Police are trying to ascertain the nature of the explosions,” they said.

In 2007, the twin blasts in Hyderabad  city had killed at least 40 people.
