A powerful bomb targeting senior judge in Pakistan’s Karachi city went off Wednesday, killing seven persons and injuring 15 others including the judge.

Islamabad, June 26/Nationalturk – At least seven people were killed and 15 others including a judge injured on Wednesday in a powerful bomb explosion targeting the convoy of senior judge in Pakistan’s Karachi city on Wednesday morning.

“The bomb explosion took place when Sindh High Court judge Justice Maqbool Baqar drove past Burns Road in Karachi in Pakistan’s Sindh province this morning,” a senior police officer said.

He said seven people including driver of judge’s vehicle were killed while 15 others including the judge were injured.

“The judge and other injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors are attending on them.

Dead include five cops, one paramilitary personal and drive

The official said the dead include five policemen, one paramilitary Ranger and judge’s driver.

Immediately after the bomb blast, police and paramilitary Rangers sealed the area and were looking for clues.

Another senior police official said the bomb was planted in a motorbike and was detonated by remote control. “According to bomb disposal squad experts, approximately eight kilograms of explosives were used in the blast”.

Justice Baqar was target of the blast: Police

Police official said Justice Baqar was the target of the blast.

Justice Baqar, according to media reports, has also served as a judge in the special anti-terrorism courts set up in Pakistan to give quick judgements in terrorism related cases.

Pakistan security agencies believe that the attack was carried out by terrorists of country’s dreaded militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The militant group has, however, not claimed responsibility of the attack so far.
