Borussia Dortmund 4 Real Madrid 1:The Germans beat the Spaniards, Video Highlights / Champions League News

Robert-Lewandowski

Borussia Dortmund crash Real Madrid with Robert Lewandowski showed why he is a prime target for Manchester United in the summer with a classic four-goal display last night.

The Borussia Dortmund and Poland striker is a goal poacher supreme – and probably put a few extra million on his transfer fee as he destroyed Real Madrid to set up hopes of an all-German Champions League final against Bayern Munich at Wembley on May 25.

Lewandowski is the first player to score four in a European semi-final or final since Ferenc Puskas achieved the feat for Real in the 1960 final.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 50th goal in the competition was almost an afterthought – and if Jose Mourinho is to leave Real as a Champions League winner with a record third club, he must marshal an all-out assault at the Bernabeu next Tuesday.

But he knows Dortmund – unbeaten in Europe this term – will travel to Madrid without fear, having taken four points off Real in the group stage.

Their lightning attacks had Real worried right from the off last night and the partisan crowd were right behind their heroes – even Mario Gotze, who this week announced his departure to rivals Bayern, 4-0 winners against Barcelona in their semi-final first leg on Tuesday.

But last night it was all about Lewandowski, who put his side ahead after eight minutes, stretching to meet a deep cross from Gotze and guiding it beyond Diego Lopez.

Real were back in it when Mats Hummels dithered over a back-pass and Gonzalo Higuain raced on to give Ronaldo a tap-in.

Enter Robert Lewandowski again. Marco Reus’s shot landed at his feet and, with the Real defence looking for offside, he turned and flicked home. His hat-trick goal was his best, holding off Pepe before dragging the ball back and hammering it into the roof of the net.

Lewandowski completed his night with a 67th-minute penalty after Reus was brought down by Xabi Alonso.
