Boxing legend Muhammad Ali released from hospital

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali has been released from a hospital after being admitted last month with a severe urinary tract infection.

American boxing great Muhammad Ali was released from an undisclosed hospital on Tuesday night after a bladder infection, a family spokesman said.

Ali, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, was hospitalized Dec. 20 with what was initially believed to be pneumonia.

“After further observation and testing, doctors determined that Ali was suffering from a severe urinary tract infection, not pneumonia,” Bob Gunnell said.

He said the boxing legend made a full recovery and was back home.

“Ali looks forward to celebrating his upcoming 73rd birthday on Jan. 17 with family and friends,” Gunnell said.

Ali was the first boxer to win the world heavyweight championship on three separate occasions, successfully defending the title 19 times.

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., he took the name Muhammad Ali in 1964 after converting to Islam.

Known for his exceptional speed, superb footwork, the ability to take a punch and quick wit, he is considered one of the biggest names in world boxing.
