boy aged 13 convicted of murder in New Zealand

A boy aged only 13, has admitted to murdering his friend aged only 11, with a rifle after an argument turned violent in New Zealand.

The incident occurred in July 2009 in one of New Zealand’s North Island’s, after an argument broke out between the then 12-year-old and 11-year-old victim.

According to reports the cause of the argument was due to a feud between the two children over who will be taking a knife on a hunting trip.

The killer is then thought to have shot the boy through the side of his left shoulder causing the bullet to destroy his trachea and exiting his body through the right armpit.

The 13-year-old was initially charged with murder, but the charge was later brought down to manslaughter after experts could not rule out the possibility that the semi-automatic rifle used in the murder may have gone off accidently.

The boy’s father who was charged under allegations of trying to pervert the course of justice also admitted that he had tried to cover up his son.

The New Zealand judge also ruled that the boy was at the appropriate age and stat-of-mind to be convicted as he had the capability of knowing the difference between right and wrong.

The father and son will appear in court on 7 December to be sentenced.
