A military plane carrying 11 people has crashed in the mountainous eastern part of Republic of South Africa /Breaking News Africa

Pretoria/NationalTurk – Officials say the plane been travelling from Pretoria to Mthatha, and went missing on Wednesday.

They disclosed to the press that initial search was abandoned due to poor weather condition in the region on Wednesday.

The wreckage plane was found in the Drakensberg Mountains, near Ladysmith, in KwaZulu-Natal province, but no person has been found as at now.

There were speculations that those on board the plane included the Nelson Mandela’s medical team but this rumour has not been confirmed from a credible source.

Officials declined to give further details about the incidents but only said rescue mission has been dispatched to the region.

Mthatha’s small airport is in Eastern Cape province is situated some 17 miles 30kmfrom Mr Mandela’s rural homestead of Qunu, where the former president has lived since retiring from   public life.

Local reporters say another military flight crash-landed at Mthatha’s airport in November this year and several people were injured.

Rumours went round then that those who were on board were the medics of the former president but the military denied that those on boards had anything to do with Mr. Mandela’s care.
