[media id=262 width=610 height=340]Spanish, Portuguese and some Latin country’s love bullfighting. It is a cultural activity which has been practiced for centuries.
The excitement, the crowd and the risks which lay in the bull ring hits record viewers each year, though the sport has lost popularity in some countries in recent years.
However, nothing could have prepared the matador, spectators or anyone for what happened in Madrid on Friday when a Spanish matador, Julio Aparicio, was gored from under his chin.
[adrotate banner=”56″]As can be seen on the video footage, the bullfighter lost his balance while the bull was coming towards him and dropped to his knee which is when the half-ton bull struck.
The scene was horrible as you can see from the video on top, but please be advised that if you’re fainthearted, DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO, it is very graphic.
The thousands of crowd looked on in horror as the matador was tossed by his chin like he was a doll. He was lifted back on his feet by his aids with blood pouring from his mouth and under his chin and remarkably he was not unconscious and managed to rush out of the ring.
The 41-year-old bullfighter is currently in intensive care with doctors saying they expect a full recovery after no arteries or major veins were damaged.
The bullfighter’s surgeon, Dr. Maximo Garcia Padros operated on Aparicio for six hours to reconstruct his throat, jaw, tongue, and roof of his mouth.
Padros said on Sunday “The horn entered the base of the jaw, just above the vocal cords,”
“It is an injury which seemed worse at first sight but luckily no major damage were done to the important areas. We have made reconstructions to Aparicio’s palate and jaw.”
According to reports the 41-year-old matador is currently communicating with writing on a piece of paper for things which he wants and to answer questions.
The Aparicio’s father, Julio Aparicio Martínez, who was a former bullfighter himself has told local news agencies that his son was in better condition but he has still not visited him.
Martínez said “I only know what I’m told, which is the he is in better condition, but I do not go to see him, I find myself unable to see my son in that condition.”
Doctors say they expect a full recovery and that there are no life threatening injuries. It has not been said if the bullfighter will ever return back to the arena.
The bull which injured Aparicio, was later killed by another matador.

the goddamn coward deserved EVERY BIT of that. kudos to the bull. Its a shame that we lose so many of these magnificient creatures to this cowardly ‘sport’.

yeah so maybe people shouldn’t be fighting bulls… Rules change, traditions end. Clearly everything that was practiced in the past is not practiced today. Bull fighting is disgusting.

well yep its your foult if you are teasing that bull. you deserve that. and after that they killed the bull couse it won? I thought that winner is winner and not going to be killed. wtf
These guys are all p…… …why don’t they climb in the ring with a UFC champ,or MMA champ…I’d really like to see a good steel cage match with them….getting their asses kicked,and really bloodied…

Waah, waah, waah… So the bullfighter got injured. It’s not like he got stabbed/gored in the heart. It’s just that the injury LOOKS shocking. If four or five people spend several hours intentionally provoking a 1000+ lb, powerful animal, they should expect it take action to defend itself (unless they are “stoopit”). Take a look at those lances sticking out of the bull’s shoulders; I’m betting they weren’t pink before the bull was gored with them. Where is the sympathy for the slow, ritualized injuries that are inflicted on many, many bulls each year? Oh, that’s right, “they’re just animals,” so their pain and suffering doesn’t COUNT. The change I’d like to see in bullfighting is for the bullfighters ALL to be required to suffer injuries when the bull does, of the same type and to a proportionally equivalent degree, and expected to fight on. If the bullfighters were given the option of continuing their “art” while suffering the same sort of pain as the bull, I’m betting a lot of them would find other “art forms.” As it stands, bullfighting is a LOT riskier for the bull!
@Yoop: No, he probably wouldn’t be “tasty.” Male hormones naturally present tend to make meat tough and unpleasant. That’s why the farming industry has perfected so many ways of neutering male animals to be used for food.
Of course I feel bad for the guy, this is a horrific accident. He’s a human, not an animal and those who say he deserved it or that they don’t feel sorry for him are hypocrites. You worry about hurting an animal, but you don’t care about a fellow human being?

The matador must have been very well aware of what the risks were. He should be thanking God he didnt get killed by that bull. However I do think that that bull fought bravely and shouldnt have gotten killed. I dont think they should ban bullfighting completely though. It’s part of the Spanish society. You shuold be proud of having such a historical art still taking place in Spain. If you ban it, you will just be a normal “boring” country like all the other ones. You don’t know what you have got until it’s gone so you should keep this art protected and not ban it (completely). That’s just unsophisticated and
Good video, but would be better if the bull crushed his head.. Let the bulls slaughter every bullfighter in the world in a video and I would simply lean back and enjoy
It is hypocritical to say you don’t feel sorry for the Matador. One one hand you show human compassion for the animal, then dispassion for the man. Those two statements do not fit together. It is sad that a man was horrifically injured and it is sad that bulls are killed.
