Champions League Last Event: Chelsea FC Bayern Munich

Chelsea caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo is “very hopeful” Gary Cahill and David Luiz will be fit to start Saturday’s Champions League final.

The defenders returned to training ahead of the match against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena.

Cahill and Luiz have both been missing with hamstring injuries while Florent Malouda will train on Friday night after a hamstring problem of his own.

John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles are all suspended.
Cahill, who joined the Blues from Bolton in January, said: “I was sick when I got the injury so for me to make this one is a huge moment.

Bayern’s Luiz Gustavo, David Alaba and Holger Badstuber will also miss the final, which is being played at their home ground, the Allianz Arena, through suspension.

Bayern Munich v Chelsea Last Match

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have met on two occasions so far in the Champions League. In the quarter-finals of the 2004/05 season, the Blues made it to the semi-finals by winning 4-2 at the Stamford Bridge before losing 2-3 at the Olympic Stadion.

English clubs have won four of their five European Cup/Champions League final encounters with German clubs, the only exception being Bayern Munich’s win against Leeds Utd in 1975.
