Chavez Urges Unity on Road to Socialism
The year 2011 will be the period for the formation of a great patriotic movement, the Polo Patriotico, to continue marching towards socialism, President Hugo Chavez said on Sunday.
In his customary news column, Chavez’s Lines, he urged Venezuelans to join together and defeat the extreme right-wing forces in the field of ideas.
His proposal is for the Polo Patriotico to unify all revolutionary forces.
“We will start year 2011 at full steam. The Bicentennial will be a year of battle and popular victory,” he said.
Chavez warned that the efforts of the counterrevolutionary forces would be fruitless, and would not prevent the people from marching towards socialism.
In his column, under the headline “Happy 2011,” Chavez said that the government and the people would not allow the opposition to plunge the country into chaos.
Regarding the formation of Polo Patriotico, he said that what is needed is “a large center of light and action capable of brining together all popular forces beyond the United Socialist Party of Venezuela,” which has a majority in the newly-elected National Assembly (Parliament), which will be installed on Wednesday.
He said the National Assembly would undoubtedly be a major scene of battle in 2011, and therefore, the historic responsibility of every legislator is significant.
