Chelsea Transfer:Napoli confirm Edinson Cavani move Stamford Bridge / EPL News

Napoli-Confirm-Edinson-Cavani-Chelsea-Transfer

Jose Mourinho found a new hero, Uruguayan scoring machine Edinson Cavani  is transferred to Chelsea.

Serie A outfit Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed he has held talks with Chelsea over a deal for striker Edinson Cavani.

Uruguay international Edinson Cavani, 26, is believed to be a top target for Jose Mourinho this summer with the new Blues boss desperate to land a big-name centre forward.

And despite previously insisting the Uruguayan will stay put, Napoli now confess he could leave.

‘On Cavani there is big interest in him from Chelsea,’ De Laurentiis said.

‘Chelsea have called me and I expect they will again in the next few hours.

‘If he ends up staying in Napoli, I will be happy. If he goes, we’ll replace him with the money we get for his sale.’

Any potential transfer is unlikely to be cheap for Mourinho, with Cavani boasting a £53million buyout clause that Napoli insist buyers must meet before a deal can happen.

However, it is hoped that the Europa League holders can tempt De Laurentiis into flogging his leading man on the cheap with a player-plus-cash deal.

New Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is keen to raid his former club for several fringe players including Marko Martin, Romelu Lukaku and Oriol Romeu, and a compromise could be found.

Prolific in Italy with Napoli, Cavani has several admirers on the continent and put Chelsea to the sword with the Neapolitans in the Champions League last year. The Neapolitans’ chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis says he will cost £54m, which would beat Chelsea’s £50m they paid for Torres in 2011.

Cavani has scored a whopping 141 goals in 255 games in Italy during spells at Palermo and then Napoli since moving to Europe from Danubio, of the Uruguayan league, in 2006.
