China opens new consulate in IzmirChinese officials hail economic and cultural relations with Turkey at inauguration of country’s second consulate in Izmir.

China opened its second consulate in Turkey on Tuesday, Izmir’s mayor saying that China saw the scenic seaport as a great city for investment.

In 2006, Chinese investors selected Izmir as “one of the best foreign cities to make investments”, Aziz Kocaoglu underlined.

New Consul General Su Gaochao said that the opening showed that Turkey and China were “opening a new page”, calling the consulate the fruitful outcome of 44 years of Turkish-Chinese diplomatic relations.

He said that the inauguration ceremony also marked the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Ankara envoy Yu Hongyang told the crowd that the two countries share “big potential”, with “increasing trade, economic and cultural cooperation day-by-day.”

The consulate compliments China’s first in Istanbul, and its embassy in Ankara /Anadolu Agency.
