CCTV state television editors found it scandalous to show publicly the hole sculpture of Michelangelo and covered his ‘ private parts ‘ of body.
State-controlled Chinese television has pixelated out the private parts of Michelangelo’s famous David Apollo statue deeming it is too rude to show it open in the public broadcast.
Chinese could not completely feel the spirit of the Renaissance. Editors at China’s CCTV censored the David Apollo statue’s genitals during a report on a new art exhibition at the National Museum of China in Tiananmen Square, Beijing.
The decision has since been the butt of thousands of jokes from internet users across the world and doctored photos have emerged making fun of the decision.

The Renaissance exhibition was opened last week at the National Museum in Beijing contains more than 60 works of art by such great artists as Sandro Boticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello Sanzio and Michelangelo. Unofficially it is said that this is the most expensive new collection in the museum that represents the Chinese capital. The museum authorities want Chinese people to feel the spirit of the Renaissance, without leaving the country.
The Michelangelo’s David Apollo sculpture is 1,46 meter high. This iconic marble statue was created by the Italian Renaissance artist in 1530 and it’s normally kept in the Museum of the Bargello in Florence.
Zhang Kexin – a professor from China’s Academy of Art was not impressed with the Chinas TV censorship describing it as unnecessary. He said : ‘ Naked sculpture is an important part of Western art. You can see it everywhere in Europe, in the parks, in the museums and in the streets. They use it to express a story, beauty and emotion. ‘

Modification of the famous Michelangelo’s David Apollo sculpture is not the only controversial decision of the Chinese censors.
