The attack is thought to have taken place in the early hours of Tuesday, and involved more then 1000 Maoist Rebels. The 80 troops who were trained in anti-guerrilla operations were outnumbered and attacked in total surprise which is why only 7 survived.

The deputy and an assistant commandant, in which one was the head constable of the district police force has also reportedly have been killed in the attack.

Officials in India say that two rescue missions to save the injured from the first attack were also ambushed by the rebels with devastating effect.

The attacks this morning was the worst yet since India began a major military attack on the rebels in several states in which over 50,000 federal paramilitary troops and over 40,000 policemen were used.

There have been thousands of casualties in the past 20 years of fighting between the Maoist and Indian security forces.

India’s Home Minister P Chidambaram said to reporters “Something has gone very wrong. They seem to have walked into a trap set by the Maoist, I am deeply shocked by the number of casualties,” and continued, “the ambush shows the savage nature of the Maoists, their brutality, and the savagery, which they are capable of”.

Another official said that most of the bodies of the diseased security officers have recovered from the site after reinforcements arrived in the area. The injured soldiers have already been taken to hospitals near by via helicopter.

According to Nationalturk sources, fighting still continues in the dense jungle area to catch the Maoist Rebels but due to the dense jungle, operations are very slow and dangerous as land mines are also installed by the terrorist group around the area.

Today’s attacks came just days after Maoist rebels killed 11 CRPF police officers, and two months after the same group killed more then 24 state police officers in West Bengal.

It is thought that over Maoist rebels are in at least 20 of the 28 states in India and was described by former Prime Ministers, as the single greatest threat facing the Indian state.
