Court attacked in Pakistan, 2 suicide bombers among 3 killed

At least three people including two suicide bombers were killed in an attack on a court in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakthunkwa province on Monday.

Islamabad, March 18/Nationalturk: At least three persons including two suicide bombers were killed in a militant attack on a court in Pakistan’s Peshawar  city in restive Khyber Pakthunkwa province on Monday.

Police sources said a group of two militants tried to the enter the courtroom of Additional Sessions Judge Kulsoom Azam in a court located on Khyber Road in Peshawar in Khyber Pakthunkwa province this evening.

“There were two suicide bombers. One blew himself up in the court room while another was shot dead by the police,” Pakistan’s TV channel Geo News quoted additional IG Masood Afridi as saying.

He said the woman judge Kulsoom Azam, some lawyers, civilians and five policemen were injured in the attack and have been hospitalized.

Sources said one of the injured person has succumbed to injuries, taking the death toll to three. “At least 28 people have been injured and are undergoing treatment at different hospitals,” they said.

Death toll may go up

Sources said the death toll may go up as many have been injured critically.

They said each bomber was carrying six kgs of explosives and four kgs of ball bearings.

They said police has secured the court complex and bomb disposal squad experts defused the jacket off the second suicide bomber, who was killed by security forces.

They said identity of the attackers is being ascertained.

Information minister  of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters that three persons have been killed in the attack. “The attackers may have been trying to free their jailed colleagues,” he said.
