Cyber attacks on gov’t computers, growing

There has been a ‘significant increase’ in the number of cyber attacks on German government computers, an interior ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
Speaking at a routine government press briefing, Stefan Paris said there were 1,600 cyber attacks recorded from January through September compared to 900 during the first nine months of last year. He added the actual figure of cyber attacks was higher than what has been reported so far.
The official stressed the government was ‘dealing with the problem very intensely. Paris added that the cyber assault targeted mostly German know-how in the technical, economic and administrative spheres.
The German official pointed to plans for the creation of a special national center to thwart cyber attacks aimed at monitoring Internet security.
