FIBA World Basketball Championship under way in Istanbul Turkey

The FIBA World Basketball Championship opened on Friday in Istanbul with an energetic ceremony a day before the competition kicks off with famous artists from all over the world taking part.

The FIBA World Basketball Championship, the world’s largest International basketball competition which will take place in Turkey will be start on Saturday at 4 PM.

Amongst the stars and dance groups who choreographed some spectacular dances and acrobatics for audiences at the Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, Istanbul and fans watching from TV, members of the Turkish parliament and FIBA President were present in the opening ceremony.

The World Basketball Championship will take place in four Turkish cities consisting of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Kayseri.

This will be the largest sports organization held in Turkey since the European Basketball Championship in 2001 where Turkey reached the Final but lost against Yugoslavia.

The Championship will last for 16 days and will consist of 24 nations which make up four groups of six teams. Each Groups matches will take place in a particular city.

Group A will consist of Angola, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Jordan, Serbia and will take place in Kayseri

Group B will consist of Brazil, Croatia, Iran, Slovenia, Tunisia, USA and will take place in Istanbul.

Group C will consist of China, Greece, Ivory Coast, Puerto Rico, Russia, Turkey and will take place in Turkish capital Ankara.

Group D will take place in Izmir and consists of Canada, France, Lebanon, Lithuania, New Zealand, Spain

It is for up to a billion people to be tuned in to the FIBA Basketball World Championship and approximately 350,000 basketball lovers will flood the four Turkish cities to support their teams.

The first day of the Basketball championship will take place on Saturday and the Schedule can be seen below.
