FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa – Tuesday 22nd June game schedule

Day 11 of the FIFA 2010 World cup in South Africa will be under way on Tuesday 22nd June of the most watched sporting event in the world and its crunch time for the teams.

The third and final rounds of the group stages will start on Tuesday and four teams in total will say goodbye to the prospects of being a World Champion.

21st June World Cup Round Up
Yesterday we saw three matches played with the first being Portugal Vs North Korea and though it was expected for Portugal to win, no one saw such a big score line. Portugal scored a total of seven goals against the North Koreans with all the goals being scored by different players and six of those goals coming in the second half. The North Koreans are now guaranteed to go home and will face a very ambitious Ivory Coast side in the final game. Portugal in the other hand has put themselves on four points and only need a draw to go through but even if they lose, they will need Ivory Coast to score at least eight goals to outdo the Portuguese.

The second game of the day was between Chile Vs Switzerland and the Latin American side was able to overcome the Swede’s by a 1-0 win. Spain were also able to put their first game misery behind them and beat Honduras 2-0 in Group H’s fourth game.

Chile will now face Spain on their final game and are currently in a good position but all can change because Spain will need a win against Chile to progress and with Switzerland facing Honduras, Chile will be hoping for Honduras to at least obtain a draw. For Honduras to go through, they not only have to hope for Chile to win Spain but for themselves to score at least four goals to go through to the knock out stages.

There will be eight teams playing a total of four games on Tuesday evening and all will be hoping that they will do enough to go through to the knock out stages but be warned as the tasks of some of the teams are more daunting then others.

Tuesday 22nd June will see the final four games from Groups A and B marking the beginning of the third matches of the Group stages.

Tuesday 22nd June, FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa schedule.

Mexico Vs. Uruguay – 04:00pm local time
France Vs. South Africa – 04:00pm local time

The Group stage matches will be played at the same time to make the games as fair as possible.

Currently Mexico and Uruguay are in the driving seat of Group A with both teams on four points with Uruguay edging past Mexico with a single goal difference.

However both Uruguay and Mexico need only a draw to go to the knockout stages. However France will be facing the hosts, South Africa and will need to win by at least three or four goals depending on who wins the Mexico Vs. Uruguay game should there be a winner. This is easier said than done as not only do France face South Africa in front of their home fans but the France national side had a very public breakdown with players boycotting training.

Mexico Vs. Uruguay

The Mexico Vs. Uruguay game will be played at the Royal Bafokeng stadium also known as the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, in the city of Phokeng and has a capacity of 42,000. The game will kick off at 4:00pm local time (TR time – 5:00pm : UK time 3:00pm).

France Vs. South Africa

Nigeria Vs. South Korea – 08:30pm local time
Greece Vs. Argentina – 08:30pm local time

Argentina is favorites to finish Group B on top with South Korea and Nigeria on three points and Nigeria failing to obtain any points at all.

Argentina will only need a draw against the Greeks to go through on top of the table but Greece will need to beat Argentina and hope for South Korea to drop points against Nigeria.

Though Argentina are virtually through to the knockout stages of the competition, the Latin American side will not want to put anything to chance and are expected to go out with full force maybe wresting certain players. However with such a squad, even the reserves of the Argentinean side will be a daunting prospect for the Greeks.

South Korea who lost 4-1 to the Argentines will be needing a win against Nigeria to make sure they are through though if the Greeks miraculously beat Argentina South Korea must match the score line to go through on goal differences.

Nigeria is currently favorites to go home with the African side needing to beat South Korea by at least 3 goals and hope for Argentina to beat Greece.

Nigeria Vs. South Korea

The Nigeria Vs. South Korea game will be played at the 62,760 capacity Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa. The game will be played at 8:30pm local time (TR time – 9:30pm : UK time 7:30pm).
