FIFA president Sepp Blatter postpones visit to Cuba. The declaration was handed to Cuban Football Association and the decision was due to ‘sports politics’!

Havana / NationalTurk – Joseph Sepp Blatter, head of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), has postponed a scheduled visit to Cuba from October to early 2013, secretary of Cuban Football Association announced.

FIFA said the trip was postponed due to “sports politics” related to the organisation of the 2014 World Cup games in Brazil, according to Luis Enrique Yero, secretary of the Cuban Football Association.

FIFA Cuba Visit : Politics over sports

Sepp Blatter was expected to be in Havana Oct 25 as part of a Caribbean tour that also included Barbados, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

FIFA’s decision is a most controversial one as speculations rise on the reason why Blatter’s visit to Cuba was postponed. The American lobby at Fifa have decided to ambargo Cuba also in sports. The ongoing war in Syria and Cuba’s political stance towards Syria conflict ( supporting current Syrian government) has resulted in FIFA president’s postponing decision.

FIFA’s top official was going to preside over the laying of the cornerstone of Havana’s first synthetic-grass soccer field at La Polar Stadium, where construction is due to start in January 2013.

Sepp Blatter earlier visited Cuba in November 2000.
