According to the Forbes 2010 rich list released earlier this week there are 49 billionaires from India.

According to the Forbes 2010 rich list, the amount of mega rich, billionaire Indians have doubled since 2009 from 24 to 49.

The combined net worth of all 49 Indians in the Forbes 2010 rich list is $222 billion dollars.

Two of the Indian billionaires are also amongst the top 5 richest people in the world.

The richest Asian, who is Indian, in the list, is Mukesh Ambani who’s biggest assets lie in Reliance Industries India’s largest company.

The richest Asian in the world, Mukesh Ambani is 4th in the Forbes 2010 rich list and is worth $29 billion

The 5th richest man in the world, London based steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal is worth $28.7 billion.

Bill Gates, the software pioneer and Microsoft founder dropped down the list, to second place with a net worth of $53 billion.

Mexican, Carlos Slim the owner of the America Movil empire came first in the Forbes 2010 rich list with a net worth of $53.5 billion.

In third place came Warren Buffett the Nebraska based stockpicker with a net worth of $47 billion.

Though Indian’s super rich are increasing and getting ever more richer, India as a whole, is one of the poorest countries in the world.

with almost half the countries population living on $1.25 a day, one-third of the worlds poor, are in India according to the World Bank,

The government acknowledges the vast poverty in the country and say’s the main aim is to take advantage of the growing economy and make the poorer Indian’s benefit.

  1. Though there are many billionaires and rich people from india eventhough why there is poverty. Because the rich people they are selfish and dont care for the country.this is a big question on humanity.
