Gaddafi’s Son’s Cook Reunites with Family after Days of Torture in Tripoli

A Turkish man who worked as a cook in the home of Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and allegedly subjected to torture was reunited with his family on Friday after taking refuge in the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli.

Adnan Tam (54), who was waiting at the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli to return home after fleeing his employer’s house, was able to return to his hometown in the Samandagi district of the southern province of Hatay thanks to the help of the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli. Tam was greeted at Hatay Airport by relatives and friends. Tam was in tears when he met his family. “I will never forget the terrible days I went through in Libya,” Tam said.

“I used to work 18-20 hours a day. I was not even permitted to phone my family. I will never forget those terrible days. Once the opposition forces entered Tripoli, Hannibal and his family had to evacuate their home. I was able to escape from the window of the bathroom. I had serious psychological problems. My expenses on the way back to Turkey were paid for by the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli. Those bad days are now in the past,” Tam said.

He said he will file a case against Hannibal Gaddafi and his wife Aline Skaf for taking his passport and torturing him. “I will seek compensation for what they did. I will first file a case with Libyan courts. I will then seek compensation at the European Court of Human Rights ,” he said.

Tam earlier said Skaf had stabbed him in the arm and back and that she was the one who most frequently tortured him.
