As tickets for the Legendary Rolling Stones’ first tour in five years go on sale, Keith Richards has admitted that the band could do further dates – including next year’s Glastonbury festival.
Speaking at the world premiere of Crossfire Hurricane – a documentary to celebrate their 50th anniversary – Richards talked about rumours that the band may be headlining Glastonbury in 2013.
“I don’t know yet. That’s next year right? I’d love to though,” the guitarist said.
He added that it was not the first time people had predicted the end of the Stones
“They’ve been saying that for 20 years, who knows, we don’t know so how can anyone say so.”
As the rock legends prepare to play a series of concerts in Britain and the US, Mick Jagger told Sky News he was looking forward to being back on the road.
“I’m really looking forward to it. We’ve been working hard rehearsing over the last few weeks and we’re looking forward to doing the shows for the anniversary.”
Further fuelling speculation that more shows could be in the pipeline, Ronnie Wood said: “Once this wheel is turning I don’t think it will be able to stop… We won’t be able to stop”.
In their first tour for five years, two shows are scheduled in November at London’s O2 Arena, followed by two gigs in December in Newark, New Jersey, just outside of New York.
Some fans have been angered over the high cost of tickets – ranging from £95 to £875 in the UK – but it is still predicted that around a million people will be disappointed such is the demand to see the band.
Their new film, premiered in London, documents the group’s highs and lows – from blues obsessed teenagers in the 60s to their status as rock royalty and from intimate gigs to stadium extravaganzas.
Richards says he still loves performing in the band: “You just do what you love to do, maybe that’s the secret. I don’t know and if I did I’d bottle it and sell it to you!”
The film combines lots of unseen footage from over the last five decades as well as commentary from Jagger, Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts, and former Stones Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor.
