At least 10 persons including five security men were injured when militants attack Pakistan Air Force Engineering Centre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday.

Islamabad, Dec 18/Nationalturk – Unknown attackers, suspected to be Taliban militants, attacked Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Engineering Centre  in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, injuring 10 persons including five security men.

Pakistan security officials, pleading anonymity, said attackers riding on two motorbikes lobbed two hand grenades towards PAF Engineering Centre gate no.3  (Risalpur Cantonment) near main GT Road in Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Scores of young men were present in the area as recruitment for PAF engineering wing was underway,” they said.

They said 10 persons including five security men were injured in the explosions, which shook the entire area. The injured were shifted to DHQ hospital and Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

Immediately after the attack, Pakistan army and police men laid siege around the area and launched a combing operation to track the attackers.

Youth in large numbers had turned up for army recruitment

Meanwhile, Pakistan newspaper, The Dawn, quoting military sources said large number of young applicants had turned up for the army recruitment in Risalpur Cantonment when the grenade explosions took place.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack. However, security officials believe that the attack was carried out by Pakistan Taliban militants.

The attack comes after a recent Taliban attack on Peshawar airport, which also houses the base of Pakistan air force. Pakistan army said five attackers were killed in the attack and five others were killed after being chased by security men.
