Abdullah Avcı (Hunter) to be named new manager of Turkey national soccer team

Istanbul / NationalTurk – Turkish Super League side Istanbul BB coach Abdullah Avcı is likely to be unveiled as the new Turkish national football team manager today.

Abdullah Avcı is the frontrunner to replace Guus Hiddink, who was sacked from the post yesterday following the national team’s failure to make it to the Euro 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine. His co-trainer Oguz Cetin is also shown the door, who received unpleasant responses from Turkish fans at the crushing 3-0 defeat against Croatia.

The 48-year-old is the longest-serving top-flight manager in Turkey, having led Istanbul BB for the past five years.

Turkish coach for Turkey NT ? Will Avcı (the Hunter) be successful ?

He led the lowly Istanbul side backed up by Istanbul municipality, to the Super League in 2007 and helped the side reach the Turkish Cup final for the first time in its history. That is his only success with this club, which is among the few football clubs in Turkey with no financial problems and where footballers are being paid without delays. Despite this facts Abdullah Avcı ‘s best record with İstanbul BB is being 6th in the Turkish League, where even a side like Bursaspor can manage to win the title.

Avcı (The Hunter) was a coach at youth level and enjoyed a European Championship victory, as well as a fourth-place finish in the U-17 World Cup in 2005. His co-trainer will Okan Buruk, who has none experience with coaching.
