Honduras Fights vs. Militarization

Honduran rural and indigenous organizations on Monday boost a process against repression in Aguan Valley, militarized for third time since Profirio Lobo´s inauguration.

Leaders from the Unified Peasants Movement of Aguan (MUCA) stated they pretend to defend human rights in the capital´s northeastern communities and the people in general, to break with domination and subjugation.

As part of that strategy, members of Muca and other groups involved in the militant solidarity campaign with Bajo Aguan will march towards the region on Friday.

Those actions have support of the civil council of grass-roots and indigenous organizations, the Black Fraternal Organization, the National Popular Resistance Front, and the Broad Movement for Dignity and Justice.

Also supporting is the Reflection, Investigation and Communication Team from the Jesus Company, in addition of the intention of continuing what was agreed in the Hemispheric Meeting against Militarization, held in October 2008.

Since the coup d´etat that overthrew former Constitutional President Jose Manuel Zelaya in June 2009, Aguan people have constantly faced the repression and occupation by police and military forces.
