Hugo Chavez neither dead nor dying

Hugo Chavez neither dead nor dying
Hugo Chavez remains hospitalized in Cuba, pretty much alive

In Chavez’s absence, members of the United Socialist Party have met to deny the flood of rumors by the opposition that say Chavez is dead or suffering from a serious disease.

Chavez underwent emergency surgery for a pelvic abscess on June10th in Havana, the final destination of his tour in three Latin American countries. But over two weeks later no medical reports of his condition have been released. Since then, the president has only addressed the nation via his Twitter account and a brief telephone call to TV network Telesur one day after surgery. Rumours of the impending demise of Hugo Chavez have been greatly exaggerated.

Is Hugo Chavez Dead

The Minister for Communication and Information, Andres Izarra, has stated that only lies have been told and misrepresentations have been made about the health of President Chavez. The Minister holds that Chavez is recovering “satisfactorily” from its operation and will return “soon” to Venezuela.

The statements by Izarra were produced after the Miami Herald’s Spanish-language newspaper, the Nuevo Herald, reported on Saturday that Chavez was in a “complicated” and “critical condition”, and that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Other opposition representatives think otherwise and believe the president has stayed in Cuba just to create sympathy on his followers who are now impatiently waiting for his triumphal return. His unaccustomed silence has prompted rumours that the 56-year-old left-winger, who faces a grueling re-election battle next year, may have fallen seriously ill, possibly with prostate cancer. The Argentinian offshoot of Wikileaks meanwhile claimed on Twitter to have intelligence that he’d died from a heart attack.

Chavez will return to Venezuela pretty much alive

It is expected that President Chavez will be back in time to host the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to be hold in Margarita Island on the 5th of July, when the country celebrates 200 years of independence. It seems the controversy will be finally cleared only when the president hits Venezuelan ground.

Chavez has 1.6 million followers on Twitter. Though several messages were posted on his account on Friday, none referred to his health. And there is no way of knowing who actually wrote them. One did, however, express excitement that his daughter Rosines and grandchildren had flown to Cuba to visit him. “Ah, what happiness to receive this bath of love! God blesses me!”

Bir Yorum

  1. The rumor reminds me what Bush once stated, saying it’s just like it was in the old West as he stood at a podium in Texas and showed the audience a poster that read “Wanted Dead or Alive” LOL Hard to remove a leader of such stature as Hugo Chevez when his people hear the story of the “Four Men of Gold” and they all realize they are all wearing crystal clear robes by the crystal clear waters! He’ll survive…even as the living dead! LOL gradkiss
