222 immigrants kidnapped in Central America

About 222 reports of kidnappings of Central American immigrants have been made this year, said the commissioner of the National Migration Institute, Salvador Beltran del Rio.

Most of the reports were made in the northern states of Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, and Nuevo Leon, and in the southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca, with the General Attorney’s Office making the corresponding investigations, Beltran del Rio told reporters.

Rapes, executions, kidnappings, abuse and extortion are some of the nightmares suffered by hundreds of immigrants who daily pass through Mexican territory on their way to pursue the “American dream.”

Only in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, at least 60 cases of abducted undocumented Central Americans were reported in the last 10 days.

Immigrants also mention as other very dangerous places during their transit for Mexico, such as Lecheria, in the state of Mexico, and Coatzacoalcos, in Veracruz, where immigrants may easily disappear.
