Authorities imposed indefinite curfew in parts of Indian administered Kashmir on Wednesday evening following sectarian clashes.

Srinagar, Nov 28/NationalTurk – After sectarian clashes broke out between Sunni and Shia Muslims in parts of Indian administered Kashmir, authorities imposed indefinite curfew in some parts of the region as a precautionary measure on Wednesday evening.

Police sources said Sunni and Shia Muslims clashed in Zadibal, Hawal and some other areas in Srinagar, summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir. During the clashes, youth of two communities pelted stones on each other.

They said an emergency meeting of top officials of the region was held in the evening and it was decided to impose indefinite curfew in parts of Srinagar as a precautionary measure.

An official spokesman said curfew has been imposed in  nine police stations of Nowhatta, M G Gunj, Safakadal, Khanyar, Ranawari, Nigeen, Lalbazar, Zadibal and Parimpora with immediate effect. “The curfew will continue in force  till further orders,” he said.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said police have taken cognizance of  some skirmishes between two sectarian communities in Zadibal and some other areas. “The civil and police administration are monitoring the situation,” he said.

Protests against Shoe company

The tempers in the region are running high after religious inscription were found on a product of international Shoe company.

People at many places in Indian administered Kashmir including Nowhatta, Lal Chowk, Rainawari, Hazartbal, Khanyar, Shalimar, Magam, Mirgund Pattan, Hanjiveera came out on staged demonstrations. The protestors chanting pro-Islamic and anti-India slogans were demanding action against the Shoe company for hurting the sentiments of Muslims. The protestors blocked vehicular movement on the roads for some time. At some places, the protestors clashed with police and paramilitary soldiers.

Police  sources said majority stock of the product has been seized.

Meanwhile, top cleric and moderate separatist leader  Mirwaiz Umar Farooq  sternly condemned the attempt by a shoe making company to hurt the religious sensibilities of the Muslims around the world. “It has become a known fact that  anti-Muslim powers are behind every attempt to hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims,” he said and termed the  anger and outrage of the people on the desecration issue as justified.

  1. Haaa, Living in India, I did hear about the Shia -sunni brotherly love clases but the quote about the inscriptions n shoe is available only in this newspaper. One more attempt to show the world about how Islam is being hurt by non muslims when it actually ceases to exist..BTW, show me a place in the world where Mulims are valued more then in India.The fact is just the opposite ,More muslims are killed by Muslims brothers in Muslim ummah! then in other places…Eg- Have a look at Pakistan,incase there is a confusion…
