India and Pakistan have locked horns over the security of Indian bollywood super star Shah Rukh Khan.
New Delhi, Jan 29/Nationalturk – The nuclear arch rival Asian nations India and Pakistan have locked horns over the security of Indian bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. Pakistan has asked India to provide security to the Muslim super star while Indian government has dismissed the suggestion saying the country is capable of taking care of security of its people.
Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik sparked the controversy yesterday by asking Indian government to provide adequate security cover to Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.
“Shah Rukh is born Indian and he would like to remain Indian but I will request India government to please provide him security. I would like to request all Indian brothers and sisters and all those who are talking in a negative way about Shah Rukh that they should know he is a movie star,” he had told media persons in Pakistan.

He had said that Shah Rukh is loved by people of Pakistan and India. “I am sure all those who are talking against him or are trying to threaten him, they will withdraw their threat with this hope that the stars are loved, the stars provide love and they are like a symbol of unity”.
Pakistan minister was responding to questions about a first-person account penned by Shah Rukh in an Indian magazine Outlook , in which he had shared his experiences as a Muslim in the post-9/11 world.
The actor has written for the special edition of Outlook Turning Points publication that he sometimes becomes the inadvertent object of political leaders, who choose to make him a symbol of all that they think is wrong and unpatriotic about Muslims in India. “There have been occasions when I have been accused of bearing allegiance to our neighbouring nation than my own country — this even though I am an Indian whose father fought for the freedom of India. Rallies have been held where leaders have exhorted me to leave my home and return to what they refer to as my original homeland,” Shah Rukh has written.
The bollywood super star has faced ire of several rightwing Hindu groups in past.
Meanwhile, responding to Pakistan minister’s suggestion, Indian Home Secretary R K Singh today told media persons in Indian capital (New Delhi) that Indian government India is quite capable of taking care of the security of its people.
He dismissed Pakistan Interior Minister suggestion and asked him to look after the security of Pakistani citizens and not to worry about Shah Rukh Khan.
“We are capable of looking at the security of our own citizens. Let him (Rehman Malik) worry about his own people,” Singh said.
