Indian and Russian Air Force is conducting a 10-day joint air defence exercises in Caspian sea in Russia.

New Delhi, Aug 26/Nationalturk – In order to strengthen military ties between the two countries, Indian and Russian Air Force is conducting a 10-day joint air defence exercises in Caspian sea in Russia.

“The air defences exercises by Indian Air Force (IAF) and Russian Federation Air Force (RFAF) named “Ex Avia Indra-2014” commenced at Astrakhan region, near the Caspian Sea in Russia on August 25,” an Indian defence spokesman said.

He said the air exercise will continue till September 5.

‘First air defence exercise’

Ex Avia Indra-2014 is the first exercise of its kind between the two Air Forces and is seen as a major mile stone in military relations between the two countries. The fighter pilots, helicopter pilots, missile combat crew, as well as engineers from the Indian Air Force (IAF) and their counterparts of the RFAF are participating in the exercise.

The spokesperson said during the air exercises, fighter and helicopter pilots of IAF will participate in missions alongwith Russian pilots in aircraft of Su-30SM fighter aircraft, Mi-17 and Mi-35 helicopters. “The missile combat crew will interact with their counterparts from the Russian Air Force and participate in Air Defence exercises”.

The air exercises, according to him, will also provide an opportunity to both the forces for exchange of best practices and will cement the foundation for a more professional interaction and growth in the future.

India and Russia have strong economic and military ties.
