Indian authorities have screened over 10000 passengers at airports in country for deadly Ebola virus since August 10.

New Delhi, Aug 18/Nationalturk -: In order to avert Ebola virus from reaching the country, Indian authorities have screened over 10000 passengers at airports in country for deadly Ebola virus since August 10.

“Since August 10, 10194 passengers have been screened for Ebola virus at country’s airports — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Trivandrum, Kolkata and Kochi,” an Indian Health ministry official said.

India has made quarantine-cum-isolation health facility functional at Delhi Airport in capital to treat the passengers infected by Ebola virus, if any. India has set up special centres at airports to screen passengers coming from four Western African nations – Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

Health official said the health cards of passengers from Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) affected countries have been returned by Immigration Department. “All these passengers were screened at the concerned airports”.

He said samples of two Nigerian nationals (aged 4 and 37) admitted to Dr RML Hospital, New Delhi yesterday have been tested negative.

“The Indian national admitted to Bhilai Hospital earlier has also tested negative. The 79 year old male Nigerian national continues to be under observation at Dr RML Hospital. His test reports are awaited,” the official said.

He said since Saturday evening, five citizens of Indian origin aged 38 (M), 38(F), 7(M), 2 (F) and 31(F) have been admitted Quarantine cum Isolation Health Facility at Delhi Airport.

“All of them have been found negative for EVD in tests,” he said.

World Health Organisation (WHO) has reported a total of 2127 cases in four Western African countries and 1145 deaths as on August 13 due to Ebola Virus Disease from affected countries.

Guinea has reported  380 deaths, Liberia 413 deaths, Sierra Leone 348 deaths and Nigeria four deaths.

Nigerian headed to India dies showing Ebola symptoms

According to media reports, 35-year-old Nigerian woman travelling from Nigeria to India for cancer  treatment, has died in UAE after showing symptoms similar to those of deadly Ebola virus.

“During her transit phase at Abu Dhabi international airport, the patient’s health deteriorated and despite prompt medical assistance, she could not be successfully resuscitated,” reports said.

They said woman showed signs that may be consistent with Ebola virus infection.

According to media reports, all contacts of the patient, including her husband and five medical professionals who treated her, are in isolation pending result of Ebola testing on the patient.
