Indian government has taken many steps to ensure safety of domestic and foreign women travellers in the country.

New Delhi, July 16/Nationalturk – After many sexual assault cases on foreign women tourists, Indian government has taken many steps to ensure safety of domestic and foreign women travellers in the country.

“A code of conduct has been adopted for safe and honourable tourism. It contains a set of guidelines to encourage tourism activities to be undertaken with respect to basic rights like dignity, safety and freedom from exploitation of both foreign and domestic tourists, especially women and children,” India’s Minister for Culture & Tourism Shripad Yesso Naik said.

He said letters have been written to all the Chief Ministers of the States in India to take immediate and effective steps for ensuring conducive and friendly environment for all tourists.

India has 28 States. Besides, the country has also seven union territories, which are directly being administered by Indian government.

‘Cops to be deployed on markets’

The State governments have also been told to deploy policemen or traffic police personnel in strength at the places and markets, which are frequently visited by the tourists.

The contingents of women police have also been deployed at the busy markets for instilling confidence among the women tourists.

There were many instances when foreign women tourists were raped, molested or harassed in Indian cities.

“CMs have been told to publicize the steps taken for safety of women travellers to increase the sense of security amongst the present visitors and also to counter the negative publicity,” the minister said.
