The Indian girl, who was gang raped in a moving bus, has been airlifted to Singapore for specialized treatment on Thursday.

New Delhi, Dec 23 /Nationalturk – The 23-year-old Indian female student, who was gang raped in a moving bus in Indian capital on December 16, has been flown to Singapore for specialized treatment.

“The victim was flown to  Singapore and has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of Mount Elizabeth hospital, Singapore in a critical condition,” an Indian government official said.

He said the victim was flown out of Safdarjung hospital, Delhi to Singapore for specialized treatment early this morning.  The plane carrying the girl landed at the Changi International Airport, Singapored early this morning.

The official said victim’s parents and a team of doctors from the Safdarjung Hospital have also accompanied her.

The Mount Elizabeth hospital specialises in multi-organ transplant procedures. The Indian government is said to be bearing all the expenses for the 23-year-old’s treatment.

“The victim suffered two cardiac arrests yesterday and the decision to move her was taken after a high level meeting, which was also attended by Indian government officials,” sources said.

Victim’s condition continues to be critical

Doctors at Safdarjung hospital, Delhi, where she was undergoing treatment before being flown to Singapore, said the gang rape victim’s condition continues to be critical. “She has survived the after effects of the injuries so far, but her condition continues to be critical. It was decided that the patient be shifted abroad for further treatment”.

The head of the hospital which treated her in New Delhi hinted that the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, located in Singapore’s Orchard Road shopping district, was chosen for its modern organ transplant facility.

The 23-year-old female student was gang raped in a moving bus on December 16 by six persons. She was later beaten with iron rods by the accused and thrown from the moving bus in a semi-naked condition alongwith his male friend, who was also beaten. The victim has undergone many surgeries and even most of her intestines were removed by the doctors following her brutal rape.

The gangrape of 23 year-old girl has outraged India. There have been protests and demonstrations across India since December 16, when the incident took place. Massive protests have taken places in Indian capital, New Delhi during past one week. A police constable trying to control the crowd died in hospital on Tuesday.
