Indian super rich club rises to 141, Mukesh Ambani stays at No 1

According to a report, super-rich club of India has increased from 101 to 141 this year with business tycoon Mukesh Ambani continuing to be the richest person in India.

New Delhi, Oct 25/Nationalturk– The super rich club of India has increased to 141 from 101 last year and business tycoon Mukesh Ambani continues to be the richest person in India with personal assets of $18.9 billion.

According to the China-based Hurun India Rich List, which was released yesterday, the total wealth of India’s top 100 rich people rose to $250 billion this year as compared to $221 billion in the previous year.

“141 individuals in India have personal wealth of $300 million or more. It was only 101 individuals last year. In the elite club of 141 super rich people, 101 individuals either retained or increased their wealth and only 40 of them witnessed a decrease in their assets,” the report said.

L N Mittal is 2nd richest in India

The report said Indian business tycoon and Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani is richest person in India with personal wealth of $18.9 billion. He is followed by London-based ArcelorMittal’s chief L N Mittal with assets of $15.9 billion.

Dilip Shanghvi, 58, founder of Sun Pharmaceuticals, India’s second largest drug maker, is No 3 richest in the India with 66 per cent surge in his wealth.

Indian film superstar Shah Rukh Khan also figures in the list of super-rich Indians.  “The actor, who is the co-owner of Red Chillies Entertainment and owns a cricket team in India’s IPL 20/20 cricket tournament, has been ranked at 114 with personal assets of $400 million,” according to Hurun India Rich List.

Only 4 women figure in richest Indians

Only four women, according to the report, figure in the super rich list of India. “Savitri Jindal (62), non-executive chairperson of OP Jindal steel Group, is the richest Indian woman with a personal fortune pegged at $5.1 billion. She is  followed by Indu Jain, 77, chairperson of India’s largest media group, Bennett, Coleman & Company, with $1.9 billion personal asset”.

According to Hurun Report India list, the minimum cut-off mark for finding a place in this year’s coveted list was $300 million. “Wealth calculations were snapshot of October 18, 2013 when the rate of exchange to the US dollar was Rs 61.5″.
