India’s railway revenue earnings up by over 13 per cent

The railway revenue earnings in India increased by over 13 percent in last nine months of 2013.

New Delhi, Jan 14/Nationalturk – In a good sign for Indian economy, the railway revenue earnings in India increased by over 13 percent in last nine months of 2013.

“The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during April 1 to December 31, 2013 were Rs. 101665.95 crore (Indian currency) compared to Rs. 89701.14 crore during the same period last year,” an official of Indian railways said.

He said country’s railway revenue earnings registered an increase of 13.34 per cent during last nine months of 2013.

Total goods earnings up by 10.91 per cent

The official said total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 62016.30 crore during 1st April – 31st December 2012 to Rs. 68782.53 crore during 1st April – 31st December 2013, registering an increase of 10.91 per cent.

“The total passenger revenue earnings during 1st April – 31st December 2013 were Rs. 27646.10 crore compared to Rs. 23024.26 crore during the same period last year. It registered an increase of 20.07 per cent,” he said.

He further said the approximate revenue earnings from other coaches amounted to Rs. 2862.22 crore during April – December 2013 compared to Rs. 2345.23 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 22.04 per cent.

‘6359.77 million passengers travelled in trains’

“The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during 1st April– 31st December 2013 were 6359.77 million compared to 6413.89 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.84 per cent,” he said.

The official said in the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-December 2013 were 3415.79 million and 2943.98 million compared to 3347.13 million and 3066.76 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 2.05 per cent and a decrease of 4.00 per cent respectively.
