International Forum on the Cuban Five in Cuba

More than 200 representatives from the five continents have confirmed their attendance to the 5th International Symposium on five Cuban antirrerorists arbitrarily jailed in the US for more than 11 years.

International Forum on the Cuban Five in Cuba Lawyers, journalists, members of parliament and religious leaders will take part in the gathering, which will take place in the eastern city of Holguín next November 19-23, reported Cuba’s National Information Agency (AIN).

Amauri Torno, an official with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), was quoted as saying that the participants from 46 countries are interested on spreading the truth about Gerardo Hernández, René González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando González.

The Cuban Five as they are internationally known were arrested on September 12, 1998 while they were monitoring violent groups of Cuban-Americans in Florida who were plotting terrorist actions against Cuba.

Many judicial evidence show that they never put the US security in jeopardy.

Notwithstanding the declaration of innocence and the international community’s call for their release, the Cuban antiterrorists are serving harsh sentences from 15 to double life imprisonment.

According to AIN, Greek Dimitri Agiomavritis said that he is committed to the Cuban Five cause until justice is done.

He accused the US Government of double standard for protecting violent terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles while keeping in jail peace defenders.
