Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is trying to make foothold in Pakistan’s commercial capital and financial hub, Karachi.

Islamabad, Oct 17/Nationalturk – The intelligence agencies in Pakistan are worried over Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) trying to make foothold in the country.

According to media reports, ISIS is trying to make its foothold in Pakistan’s biggest city and industrial hub Karachi.

There are reports that in many areas in Karachi including  Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-e-Maymar and Manghopir, walls have seen littered with ISIS inscribed in black.

The ISIS inscriptions have been jotten down by unknown groups and have been seen written on walls at many places.

The inscriptions have sent alarm bells among the intelligence agencies, who have asked police and other law enforcing agencies to increase their vigil and surveillance on the suspected persons.

The ISIS has earlier announced its ambition to expand its Caliphate to Khorasan – a region referred to Iran, Afghanistan, and Indian sub-continent including Pakistan.

Many terrorist commanders in Pakistan have pledged their allegiance to ISIS and its chief Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi. Recently six top commander of once dreaded terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) alongwith its spokesman have issued a statement announcing their allegiance to the group and its chief.

High level meet discusses ISIS threat

A high-level meeting on national security chaired by Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was held in the capital Islamabad yesterday to discuss the issue.

According to Pakistan newspaper, The News, the participants in the meeting pointed out that the local militants’ efforts to ally with ISIS was not organised and coordinated at this stage.

“This provided an opportunity to smash any possible ISIS foothold in the country. The failure to take solid steps in this regard would allow the TTP-ISIS nexus to organise itself,” they felt and asked security agencies to act to ensure that ISIS is not able to make any foothold in the country.
