Statement of the day comes from Israeli FM Lieberman : Israel will apologize to Turkey, if US apologizes to Pakistan ! Turkish PM Erdogan is expected to response in similar fashion !
Ankara / NationalTurk – Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is brilliant, could be that he was poorly nourished as he was an infant, or he is a man of speculative speeches. Whatever the reason behind that is, his point of view on Turkey Israel US relations explains that Israel’s leash is at US hands, and US hold it very firmly!
Israel FM Lieberman stated today Israel should not have to apologize over ‘Mavi Marmara’ raid to Turkey if United States of America does not apologize over killing of Pakistanis in a botched air raid.
Israel : If Big Brother USA does it we are allowed to do the same
‘ Israel does not have to apologize for the killing of nine Turkish activists ( another suspicious remark, but lets stick to it) on a Gaza-bound flotilla in 2010 unless the United States apologizes for the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers in a mistaken drone air strike last November ‘ is exactly what the Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said during a recent speech. Lieberman justified his reasoning with this statement ‘The Pakistanis asked the US to apologize, and the Americans said ‘no way,’ ‘a reference to the November incident where US forces accidentally fired on two Pakistani border posts.
Israel FM Cites US Precedent for Refusing Turkey Apology
‘ The Pakistanis asked the U.S. to apologize, and the Americans stated, ‘No way.’ So when Americans come to us and pressures us to apologize over the Mavi Marmara to Turkey, because of this or that constraint, sometimes even to best friends you must say, ‘No,’ Israeli Minister Avigdor Lieberman was quoted as stating.
‘ Otherwise, no one will respect you,’ The Israeli diplomat added. Congrats for the outspokennes but it sucks …
The Israeli Foreign minister expressed Israel ‘s stance on the Mavi Marmara subject remains unchanged and defined the Israeli use of brute force as ‘ a legitimate right for self-defense. ‘
‘ We were right, ‘ Lieberman continued . ‘ And you don’t apologize over something right, regardless of the pressure.’
US diplomat on Turkey Israel Relations
Michele Flournoy, who served as the third top official in the Pentagon and helped Us President Obama Barack Obama shaping his national security policy, before stepping down earlier in 2012, said last week at an Institute for National Security Studies conference in Tel Aviv, Israel that it was of major importance for Israel ‘ repairing Turkey Israel relations ‘
During the conference , the top U.S. official pointed out the significance of fixing Turkish- Israeli ties and hinted that Israel should apologize to Turkey, a country he referred to as ’ one of the strongest and most influential voices in the region, which remains a close and valued NATO ally for the United States, and shares ‘ the US interest in preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear weapon state.’
The old hand continued ‘Israel has to act more strategically, and I think there is great opportunity to rebuild its partnership with Turkey and with other partners where it can. This is really of importance at a time of such regional uncertainty in the Middle East ‘
Last week a Turkish court decided to indict former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi and three other former top Israel Defense Forces officials for involvement in the Mavi Marmara Raid where Israeli commondos confronted so-called Turkish and American activists, all members of an so-called human rights group and humanatarian aid organization with Islamistic roots.
Turkey Israel USA Pakistan : Gaza flotilla Mavi Marmara raid botched US air raid in Pakistan : Apologies fail !
Ankara demanded a formal apology from Israel for the killings and that Israel lifted the Gaza blockade. Turkey has also expelled the Israeli ambassador and suspended military agreements it penned with the country. Israel did not care.
A NATO cross-border air raid accidentally killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on Nov. 26, 201
The US has since expressed regret for the tragic incident, something Israel has also said it was willing to do regarding the killing of nine Turks on the May 2010 Mavi maramara vessel from the flotilla that aimed to pierce through the blockade of Gaza. The Wall Street Journal reported in May that during discussions last December in Washington over whether it should apologize to the Pakistanis, Flournoy suggested the classic political language whereby the US would apologize for the ‘ unintentional and tragic’ deaths, but would not accept full responsibility. According to the New York based newspaper, she argued that the ‘ US risked the issue festering.’
